Prison service pays €1 million in legal costs

The Irish Prison Service has paid out more than €1 million following lawsuits taken by inmates and prison officers injured behind bars since the start of 2006.

The Irish Prison Service has paid out more than €1 million following lawsuits taken by inmates and prison officers injured behind bars since the start of 2006.

Seven families have also brought legal action against the prison service in the past two and a half years relating to claims arising from the deaths of relatives while they were in custody.
