The government jobs initiative received mixed responses last week and, while 20,000 internships will be directly generated, its main remit is to drive job creation in other sectors of the economy.

Ireland’s unemployment rate is now 14.7 per cent, and industry groups have constantly reiterated the need for positive and practical actions to generate jobs.
