Prices unchanged in December as clothing costs fall

Consumer prices were unchanged in December from November, as falling clothing and footwear costs helped offset rising food and drink prices.

Consumer prices were unchanged in December from November, as falling clothing and footwear costs helped offset rising food and drink prices.

The annual inflation rate, based on a European Union measure, quickened to 1.7 per cent from 1.6 per cent, the Central Statistics Office said today. Based on a measure that includes mortgage interest costs, inflation accelerated to an annual 1.2 from 0.8 per cent in the previous month.
