Any music lover around in the good old days has a special place in their heart for Lionel Bart’s musical Oliver!, which had a sensational premiere in the West End in 1960, then went on to Broadway and major cities right across the United States. Oliver! broke onto the scene somewhere between Elvis and the Beatles and it often seemed it was outscoring both in terms of newspaper headlines.
