The European Commission is likely to continue in office until after Christmas because of continuing delays over the Lisbon Treaty and the nomination of new commissioners.
Czech Republic president Václav Klaus is continuing his refusal to sign the treaty, despite his government’s acceptance and parliament’s approval. After Ireland’s approval and the Polish president’s signature, the Eurosceptic Klaus is the last stand-out against the Treaty.
