Pressure is growing on the RTE board this weekend ahead of a Tuesday morning showdown with the minister for communications, Pat Rabbitte.

Pressure is growing on the RTE board this weekend ahead of a Tuesday morning showdown with the minister for communications, Pat Rabbitte.

However, Rabbitte will face resistance to any move to stand down the board on grounds that at least four of the 13-member board were appointed by open competition rather than ministerial appointment, and their nominations ratified by an Oireachtas committee.
