Ports prepare for radical overhaul

Ten state ports have been split into two categories according to their national importance, writes Nicola Cooke.

More than 90 per cent of Ireland's imports pass through the country's ten major ports, yet the operation of many of them is shrouded in mystery.

These ports are vital parts of this island nation's infrastructure, but as autonomous semi-state companies they operate independently of each other.
