Pope Benedict will meet leaders of the Roman Curia tomorrow to discuss efforts to resolve the 18-year-old schism by the traditionalist Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX).

The society, founded by the late Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, broke away from the Catholic Church in 1988 after Lefebvre ordained three bishops without Rome’s permission. All four bishops were excommunicated, as was Bishop Antonio de Castro Mayer of Campos, Brazil, who assisted with the illicit ordinations.
