Politicians bombarded HSE over medical cards
Despite changes to the processing system, the HSE is still subject to heavy lobbying on medical cards by some TDs and senators, writes Michael Brennan.

The centralisation of medical card processing in 2011 was supposed to take politics out of the system.
The idea was that TDs would no longer be able to easily persuade local health officials or community welfare officers to give medical cards to people who weren’t entitled to them.
