Last week came the news that Colin Hunt, Brian Cowen’s special adviser and one of the most influential figures in the Fianna Fail election campaign, was leaving the political scene.

Hunt’s great ally in Treasury Buildings, Peter MacDonagh, has returned to Prague where he has been living since 2002.
