When Recycle Net started collecting plastic bottles on behalf of Dublin City Council six years ago, the Kildare-based company took four months to gather just three tonnes of plastic.

Today, the firm collects 30 tons a month from Dublin City alone.

Business has grown on a similar scale in Fingal, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown and Kilkenny, where trucks collect waste plastic from 400-kilogramme containers at ‘bring centres’.
