Mortgage holders who have already availed of payment breaks on their premiums could also avoid paying interest on up to one third of their loan over a period of several years.

This will be one of the recommendations of the government-appointed mortgage review group supported by communications minister Eamon Ryan, which will publish a report this week on the banks’ arrangements for mortgage arrears and personal debt.
