Phelan may be central figure in Doncaster probe

Omagh-based businessman Kevin Phelan is emerging as the central figure in the Moriarty Tribunal probe into whether there are connections between telecoms billionaire Denis O’Brien and former minister Michael Lowry over a British land deal.

Critically, Phelan - who, it is claimed, first raised with O’Brien’s advisers the development potential of Doncaster Rovers FC’s stadium in northern England in themid-1990s - has declined so far to give evidence before the tribunal.

O’Brien has consistently maintained that theDoncaster deal was exclusively his, while Lowry has rejected any suggestion of involvement.
