Irish stocks of the antibiotic Augmentin are running short and will not be replenished until late next year, according to the Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU), the representative body for community pharmacists.

Augmentin is one of the most widely prescribed antibiotics in primary care.

Once current stocks are exhausted, which will take no more than a couple of months, no further supplies will be available to the Irish market until late next year, the pharmacists said.
