Pharmacists received €167m HSE fees increase last year

Pharmacists were paid almost €1.37 billion in fees under the medical card and community drug schemes last year, an increase of more than €167 million on the fees they received in 2005.

Pharmacists were paid almost €1.37 billion in fees under the medical card and community drug schemes last year, an increase of more than €167 million on the fees they received in 2005.

The fees were shared by 1,348 pharmacies, according to a report to be published this week by the Health Service Executive (HSE). Some 37 pharmacies were paid more than €500,001 each in fees last year, while 469 pharmacies were paid between €240,001 and €500,000.
