The new president of the Irish Pharmacy Union says the Department of Health has failed to engage with pharmacists on expanding their role in providing primary care services.

Pharmacists criticise lack of progress in expanding role

The Department of Health has failed to engage with pharmacists on expanding their role in providing primary care services, the new president of the Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU) has said.

Rory O'Donnell, who become IPU president today, said pharmacists remained an underutilised resource in the health system. He said this remained the case even though enhancing the role of pharmacists would enable the taxpayer to make huge savings on the delivery of healthcare.
