Forty years ago, 12 paintings were stolen from Russborough House near Blessington, Co Wicklow, the then stately home of Sir Alfred Beit and Lady Clementine.

The art collection in the home included works by Goya, Ruisdael, Vermeer, Peter Paul Rubens and Thomas Gainsborough. While the collection was stolen for the first time in 1974, subsequent robberies took place in 1986, 2001 and 2002.
