The Pensions Board will issue letters this week to the trustees of struggling defined benefit pension schemes that have failed to devise a rescue plan to tackle their funding deficits.
Figures from the Pensions Board's annual report, which was published last month, have revealed that there are now less than 1,000 defined benefit schemes in Ireland, with about 80 per cent of these facing funding deficits.
