Pension Trustee Training: Higher standards of trustee are required

It is hoped that new legislation regarding trustee training will increase the calibre of pension trusteeship, writes Ruth Wildgust.

New requirements for trustee training are aimed at increasing the standard of pension trusteeship across the industry.

"Trustees are vital to the pensions system," said David Malone, head of information at the Pensions Board. "Pension trustees are tasked with a very important job, namely looking after money on behalf of others, and currently there are some 130,000 trustees across Ireland responsible for over €70 billion in pension savings," he said.
