The proceeds from the sale of state assets will be reduced because of pension fund deficits in the companies concerned, the Department of Public Expenditure has confirmed.

The government last week suggested that it would use "up to half" of the proceeds of the semi-state sell-off for investment and job creation. However, there are deficits in the pension funds of Aer Lingus, Bord Gáis and Coillte, the three companies slated for the asset disposal programme....
