Penrose quits cabinet over Mullingar barracks closure

Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore has announced that Minister of State Willie Penrose has resigned from Cabinet, he said in a statement emailed from the Labour Party press office.

Penrose had threatened to quit if the Cabinet approved the closure of the army’s Columb Barracks in Mullingar, which is in his constituency.
