Former Labour cabinet minister Willie Penrose is preparing to play a key role in the campaign to elect Labour councillors for next year's local elections.

The Longford/Westmeath TD and former 'superjunior' minister told *The Sunday Business Post* he believed that 15 months was a long time to remain outside the parliamentary party and others who lost the whip in the past had subsequently rejoined much earlier.
