Patients’ rights group outraged at transcripts of Neary reports
A patients’ rights group has said the transcripts of three obstetricians’ reports into the conduct of Dr Michael Neary in 1998 failed to take into consideration the women whose wombs were needlessly removed by the Drogheda obstetrician.
Patient Focus spokeswoman Shelia O’Connor described as ‘‘bizarre’’ the fact that the obstetricians received an undertaking from Neary that he would not carry out any other Caesarean hysterectomies without a second opinion.
The undertaking had not been included in the obstetricians’ reports on Neary in 1998 but was revealed in transcripts contained in their full reports, which were released last week.
