The Leaving Certificate 2014 big news story is that a record 27 per cent of maths students opted for the higher paper, up from 16 per cent in 2011, most of whom were in hot pursuit of bonus CAO points.
With 95 per cent passing the exam, that equates to 13,660 students earning 25 bonus points for CAO courses, nearly 1,100 more than last year. That in turn will put increased pressure on places...
