Some parents save their children's allowance to pay for their children's education, a deposit for their first home or a future wedding, according to bankers. The Department of Social and Family Affairs will transfer your payments electronically to any of the main banks, building societies or An Post.

For example, you can choose to direct it to your current account and re-direct all or some of it from there to the best savings account available.
