Setting rules and helping children keep them
There are a few key ingredients to help children learn rules and, for the most part, keep them.
When asked to behave, a child first needs to know what the required behaviour is, as they are often being faced with these situations for the first time. Social rules, such as sharing and turn-taking, also take some time to practise and learn in many situations before children begin to use these skills spontaneously.
