Parcel carrier delivers 50 new jobs

DPD looks to ecommerce as it expands its distribution centre in Athlone, writes Siobhán Brett.

The jobs announcement by the Westmeath-based express parcel carrier DPD Ireland last week was a welcome boost for a sector which has struggled during the downturn.

As part of the expansion of its distribution centre in Athlone, DPD announced that it would take on 50 new employees in the next 18 months. At present, it employs 610 people in 38 depots nationwide. Chief executive Brendan O'Neill said that he was pleased to be able to...
