Overpayment of €1.8m To Moriarty barristers

An overpayment of more than €1.8 million has been paid to a number of barristers at the Moriarty Tribunal, according to new figures.

An overpayment of more than €1.8 million has been paid to a number of barristers at the Moriarty Tribunal, according to new figures.

The overpayment dates back To May 2002. It a rose when a civil servant accidentally sanctioned an increase in the lawyers’ daily fees from €2,250 to €2,500, at the highest rates.

Two of the barristers involved are senior counsel Jerry Healy and John Coughlan.
