The recession is continuing to take its toll on companies, with 86 per cent of firms reporting a severe or moderate impact from the downturn in a new survey.

The InterTrade Ireland survey of 1,000 owner-managers of businesses - 500 in the Republic and 500 in the North - found that more than half of the businesses recorded a fall in revenue and profits in the first quarter of the year.
