Over 600 Mahon lawyers to be paid up to €50,000 each

Hundreds of solicitors and barristers hired by witnesses to represent them at the Mahon Tribunal are to receive one-off payments of up to €50,000 at the taxpayers' expense.

Hundreds of solicitors and barristers hired by witnesses to represent them at the Mahon Tribunal are set to receive additional one-off payments of up to €50,000 at the taxpayers' expense.

The tribunal has estimated the full cost of paying 'brief fees' to as many as 625 solicitors and barristers at €27.8 million.

Brief fees are paid to barristers to familiarise themselves with the background to a new case, and are paid on top of the daily...
