Original Eileen Gray chair to be auctioned in Paris

It is rare that an original Eileen Gray piece comes on the market, but on June 1 a lacquered mermaid chair circa 1912-13 is due to be sold by Camard in Paris with an estimate of €289,855 to €362,318.

It is rare that an original Eileen Gray piece comes on the market, but on June 1 a lacquered mermaid chair circa 1912-13 is due to be sold by Camard in Paris with an estimate of €289,855 to €362,318.

Until recently, only one example of the mermaid design was known to exist. Originally made by Gray for her lover, the French singer Marisa Damia, this chair turned up in 1980 at Sotheby's New York, where it realised $206,000.
