The rate of progress of the Central Bank's continuing investigation into mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI) has been criticised by the opposition, which has called for a quick conclusion to the process and a reform of the legislation relating to consumer complaints.

Thousands of Irish consumers look set to receive refunds from financial institutions in relation to mis-sold PPI policies, after an initial Central Bank probe revealed widespread poor sales practices in the area.
