Open organisers banking on McIlroy factor

The organisers of the Irish Open are optimistic that Rory McIlroy and other big golfing names will lure record numbers of spectators to the tournament this year, despite pressure on consumer spending.

The organisers of the Irish Open are optimistic that Rory McIlroy and other big golfing names will lure record numbers of spectators to the tournament this year, despite pressure on consumer spending.

Maurice O’Meara, manager of the Killarney Golf & Fishing Club, which will host the Open from July 28 to 31, said he hoped to beat last year’s attendance of 82,500 people over the four days.
