The chairman of IDA Ireland, Liam O’Mahony, has called on the government to give the agency more resources to deal with the ‘‘tragedy’’ of unemployment.

O’Mahony, the former chief executive of CRH, said that the agency, which was responsible for attracting overseas investment to Ireland, needed ‘‘somewhat enhanced numbers’’ to work more effectively.
