Olympics draws biggest US audience ever

Advertisers are very pleased with this year's Olympics, which drew record US audiences, defying expectations.

The London Olympics drew 219.4 million US viewers, overtaking the 2008 games in Beijing to become the nation’s most watched television event ever.

Gold-medal performances by Americans including sprinter Usain Bolt bolstered ratings.

According to a statement yesterday from Comcast’s NBC Universal division, which cited Nielsen ratings, NBC sold about $1.25 billion in advertising, beating the $850 million for the 2008 Olympics.
