Oireachtas to suffer further cutbacks

The budget of the Houses of the Oireachtas has been referred for review to the cost cutting taskforce, known as An Bord Snip.

The Oireachtas Commission has already proposed €4 million cuts to its €137 million budget. This includes a 10 per cent cut in TDs’ expenses and a reduction in the numbers of committees from 23 to 15.

It also proposed measures including halving the travel budget of committee members and cuts to secretarial support.
