One of Ireland's highest profile oil industry executives has dismissed the prospect of an oil bonanza off the Irish coast as "total bunkum".

As protesters gather today on Sandymount strand to oppose plans to drill for oil in Dublin Bay, Petroceltic chief executive Brian O'Cathain has said that not one barrel of commercial oil has yet been produced in Ireland.
