We could try being our normal, fragrant, unassuming selves -- and tell the retailers where to shove their pink razors.

Sometimes, it's hard to be a woman. Mostly, though, it's just very damn expensive. When I get my hair done, for example, I rarely walk away with change from €150. My husband would baulk at paying anything more than €15 for his.

I never gave this much thought before: after all, his infrequent outings to the barber take all of 15 minutes, whereas I could happily while away an entire Saturday sipping cappuccinos and reading...
