General Eoin O’Duffy, the man who drilled the Free State’s unarmed police force into a sober, upright being in the 1920s, and went on to lead the Fascist Blueshirts in the 1930s, may have run about with a louche Dublin bohemian set, presided over by Micheal Mac Liammoir and Hilton Edwards.
