O'Connor Group buys four British supermarkets

The O'Connor Group, the supermarket chain owned by Mayo businessman Noel Kavanagh, has made its first foray into the British market with the purchase of four Budgens shops in Sussex.

The O'Connor Group, the supermarket chain owned by Mayo businessman Noel Kavanagh, has made its first foray into the British market with the purchase of four Budgens shops in Sussex.

Kavanagh, who owns 11 SuperValu supermarkets in the north west, has acquired the outlets from Musgrave, the €3.6 billion Cork-based wholesale retail group. Musgrave acquired Budgen's 210 grocery stores in 2002 for €336 million.
