Blown up in 1971, the O’Connell Tower staircase in Glasnevin Cemetery is now in the final stages of being rebuilt.

Glasnevin Trust’s chief executive, George McCullough said repair work on the staircase, which is on top of Daniel O’Connell’s crypt in Glasnevin Cemetery, is due to be completed in July 2015.

Before it was damaged in an attack by loyalist paramilitaries, the public were able to climb up the stairs in the tower. ...
