Original works by Eileen Gray seldom appear at auction, so we can expect a stampede in New York next month when a screen goes under the hammer. One of an edition of five, it was designed in 1960 and executed in 1973, three years before Gray’s death.

Made of cork and blonde mahogany, each of its four panels measures 212.4 x 69.9 centimetres, and each foot is marked, in capitals, ‘Armstrong Cork Company Ltd London’.
