A piece of luggage that might have appealed to Eileen Gray is this Louis Vuitton travelling Malle Armoire trunk, circa 1920. A self-made man, Vuitton arrived in Paris as a penniless 16-year-old in 1837. When he set up his own shop in 1854 his innovations included using fashionable colours, an unpickable tumbler lock (Houdini ignored Vuitton's challenge to crack it), and canvas and glue for luggage casing rather than hide, which could impregnate the contents...
