18th century coach torch

At a Sheppard’s valuation day in Dublin last week a woman brought in something that looked like a small tin whistle. Closer examination identified it as a rare 18th century coach torch. It opens up to reveal a candle which, when lit, would have shone through the beautifully carved, perforated neckpiece. What appears to be a mouthpiece, is actually the chimney. Bid for it at Sheppard’s next sale on March 3; sheppards.ie....
