Obama needs to persuade Putin on Syrian move

With the G8 leaders meeting in Fermanagh tomorrow, Barack Obama will be trying to get Vladimir Putin to pull back his support for Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, writes Niall Stanage.

The fear is that the struggle in the Middle Eastern nation could escalate into a proxy war between bigger powers.

The crisis in Syria will be near the top of the agenda when G8 leaders, including US president Barack Obama and Russian president Vladimir Putin, meet near Enniskillen tomorrow and on Tuesday.
