Nursing homes getting a very fair deal

New figures show many nursing care homes are doing well out of the fair deal nursing care scheme, write Susan Mitchell and Philip Connolly.

The top ten highest-paid nursing homes in Ireland were paid almost €40 million under the Fair Deal scheme by the Health Service Executive (HSE) last year.

New figures show that the Nursing Home Support Scheme (NHSS) is profitable for many providers, even if the scheme remains under review. It is administered by the HSE and designed to provide financial support for people who need long-term nursing home care.
