More than 800 people each month are lodging applications for the state's scheme to finance nursing home care, with the rate of applications ahead of 2011 figures.

The Fair Deal scheme - officially known as the Nursing Homes Support Scheme - replaced the means-tested subvention system for all new entrants to nursing homes in October 2009.
