The shock resignation of Irish Nationwide Building Society (INBS) chairman Michael Walsh plunged the society’s boardroom into chaos last week.

Walsh’s departure prompted both the society and the Department of Finance to rush out statements reassuring customers and the wider banking community that the move should not be seen as a signal of something more sinister.
