Not lovin’ it - McDonald’s expansion hindered by Nama

The fast-food giant is frustrated by hamstrung developers and a lumbering planning process, writes Martha Kearns

Caution in the banking industry is slowing down businesses’ plans to expand and create jobs, according to the managing director of McDonald’s Ireland.

John Atherton said the government, banks and the National Asset Management Agency (Nama) needed to recognise the cost of caution.

‘‘We are not advocating recklessness or a lack of rigour, but there is a real benefit to moving quicker.
