Not-for-profit sector raises €5 bln, regulation urged

The report's authors noted that the sector remains poorly regulated and called for improvements.

The not-for-profit sector raised almost €5 billion in 2011, up 3.7 per cent on 2010, according to a new report on fundraising in Ireland.

The report, conducted by 2into3 ( and backed by insurer Ecclesiastical shows that not-for-profit organisations employ over 100,000 people with salaries representing 46 per cent of expenditure.

It was based on information from 1,000 charities.
